Is Your Check Engine Light On?

I had the opportunity to get away for a few days this week. Yeah! I anticipated them very much, and if I do say, they were very much needed too. I went to our District's Minister's Enrichment, which is a three day event at our District Conference Center in Carlisle, PA. We had a great speaker, Rev. H. B. London from Focus on the Family. He spoke on many different topics that were pertinent to the pastor and his life.
One message, in particular, that was a good reminder to me; and I thought I would pass on because it is important for us all, was in regard to "Watching the Guages." From I Timothy 4:16, he tells us "Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things; for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you." Truth is, we all must pay close attention to ourselves in the Lord - it is our duty as we are called to work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
Four guages he told us to watch are the:
#1 - Spiritual Guage
#2 - Physical Guage
#3 - Emotional Guage
#4 - Family Guage
All of which can change at any given moment. Good words of advice for the Pastor, as well as the lay-person. Because each day, one guage reading can vary from the next. We experience things, and go through events that change on a moment's notice, making life all the more fluid - and sometimes dangerous. Dangerous, because if we are not careful, and watchful, we can be lead into poor choices and bad experiences all because we didn't watch our guages that were meant to be warning signal to us as we try to "keep it between the lines."
He also went on to mention that there are times we get the check engine light on too. These are crisis moments that must get our full attention so that we don't crash and loose sight of it all.
Today - check your guages and watch for the check engine light so that you can continue to more forward on the course of life without any snags or regrets.
Thanks H. B. London!
